Personal Success: Your Reference Group
Posted by: | CommentsChange your point of reference and you will change your life.
When I say “reference”, I am referring to whom or to what you are comparing yourself.
Are you rich? Compared to whom?
Are you smart? Compared to whom?
Are you intelligent? Compared to whom?
Are you a hard worker? Compared to whom?
Are you a good parent? Compared to whom?
Each person has to define their own success in each individual area. The easiest way for us to define success and to get a clear picture of success is to use the picture or example of someone else that is already doing what we hope to do. But in order to avoid complacency, the simple task of changing your reference can change your life.
There’s a story about a group of businessmen that wanted to be successful in their businesses and in their finances. They began to all hang out together until eventually they were all millionaires. They continued in their normal ways, thinking they were big shots, until one day a billionaire joined their group. Suddenly, they realized that there was a whole level of success that they had not yet envisioned.
Hang around with losers and sooner or later, you too will become a loser. Hang around with winners and you can’t help but become a winner as well.
If you want to become a good parent, make friends with other good parents and do what they do. Once you become a good parent, begin to use great parents as your new point of reference and work to become a great parent.
If you want to become debt-free, hang out with others that have already worked their way to a debt-free life. And once you are debt-free, find a millionaire to emulate. If you think and do what the millionaires do, you too will soon find your own way to a million dollars.
The key is to remember that there is always another level of success that can be yours if you choose to continually update and revise your focus. Each time you reach a new level, strive for something even greater. And in attempting something greater, always update and change your reference group if you ever hope to achieve your full potential.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.

Personal Success: Step out of your comfort zone
Posted by: | Comments
Can you remember a time when you tried something new, just for fun?
Kids do it all of the time. I am constantly amazed at how children plan virtually every minute of their day
around whether or not something will be fun. Every plan they make involves doing something new just for the fun of it. Their inability to do something, or potential failure while doing it, is very rarely, if ever, contemplated.
Somewhere along the journey to adulthood, too many of us lose our desire to step out of our comfort zone. We lose the desire to try something new just for the fun of it. Whether it’s a new career, a new job, a new talent, a new trip, or anything else new that could have a positive impact on our lives, we over-analyze things and give ourselves 50 different reasons why we shouldn’t do something. All the while, what we needed was just one good reason to do it.
Successful people know that they need to consistently take themselves out of their comfort zone. Only then will you truly experience growth.
There have been times in my own life that I have fought change. And though I feared it, every time I decided to accept change, it turned out to be the best thing for me.
Don’t be afraid to try something new. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and go after that new job. Don’t be afraid to change career paths. Don’t be afraid to make today the first day of saving money to change your financial future. Don’t be afraid to learn a new skill. Don’t be afraid to attempt something new just for the fun of it. Life is too short to wait!
Take a moment and think to yourself, “If I had to do one new thing, and failure was not an option, what would I do?” The answer to that question will take you closer to where you are supposed to be.
Think about it and commit to doing it today.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.

Personal Success: What is Success?
Posted by: | Comments
Recently I was asked by a friend if a mutual acquaintence of ours was successful.
My response: What’s your definition of success?
In this particular case, I knew what my friend was asking… Does he make a lot of money? The answer to that question is yes. However, I would hardly consider this person “successful”.
The person has continual marital problems due to his unwillingness to compromise, continual family problems because of his unwillingness to keep from being selfish and has very few friends because he is so unhappy to be around.
In his case, he has put money at the forefront of his personal success, but at the expense of alienating everyone around him.
Personally, I would not consider this success. At the same time, I’m not him and my opinion doesn’t really matter.
The same holds true for you.
How do you define success?
Is it being a good mother or father?
Being wealthy?
Being a good friend?
Being great at your job?
If you can’t define what success means to you, then how will you know if and when you are successful?
Whatever it is, the way that you define success will determine how you handle the daily decisions in your life.
What I’d like for you to remember as you determine your own definition of success is that you can have more than just one version of success.
For instance, being wealthy doesn’t mean that you can’t be a good mother or father. Wanting to be a good mother or father doesn’t mean that you can’t want to have a successful career. These desires are not mutually exclusive.
You can have as much success in as many areas as you choose to have. The key is defining your own success and prioritizing your life so that you keep first things first. Success in one area should never come at the expense of success in a higher priority area. But again, if you don’t establish you priorities and if you don’t define success, you will never know where you are going.
If you don’t already have it figured out, today would be a great day to start. Define your priorities in life, then explain in great detail what “success” would mean to you in each of these categories. And lastly, write it all down and review it daily.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.

Personal Success: Set Aside Time
Posted by: | Comments
As you already know, life moves pretty fast. Before you know it, the months begin to pass like days.
Too many people let time pass them by without ever stepping out of their comfort zone and attempting to achieve what they really want in life. In my observation, there are a few different reasons why.
The first is fear of failure. Most people give up before they ever begin. Successful people still have fear, they have just chosen not to give in to it and to press on inspite of their fear. To be successful, so must you!
The second reason is that they have never actually taken the time to determine what it is that they actually want.
Look, if you don’t know what it is that you want, how do you ever expect to actually get what you want? If you don’t determine what it is that you want, and delineate it in crystal clear details, then life is going to just randomly “happen” to you.
With this approach, you lose all control over the direction of your life. The ultra-successful are no better than anyone else, they just have just taken the time to determine what they want out of life, what they will have to give in order to achieve it and focused on giving everything they have until they made it a reality.
The key is that you must set aside the time to think. Think about what you want to achieve. Think about the kind of person you want to be. Think of the kind of person you will need to be in order to achieve your goals. Think about how you can tie your success to helping others. Think about what you want for your family, your future, your friends, your coworkers, your employer or your employees. Think about why God has created you. Think about how you can utilize your unique talents and gifts.
Just set aside time to think. No tv, no phone, no computer… just you and your thoughts until you have decided what you want. And remember, you can always change your mind as time goes on, but you must have a plan and you must set aside the time to develop your plan.
Don’t let time pass you by. There is more than enough time in the day for you to sit quietly in a room to determine what you want in life. Once you know what you want, your life will start moving in that direction.
Set aside the time for success today. Lock yourself in a room by yourself if you have to, but don’t come out until you know what you want. Even if your plan is only temporary, any plan is better than no plan.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.

Personal Success: Baby Steps
Posted by: | CommentsEveryone has heard this statement at some point in their lives, yet few ever dare to attempt it.
Why?
Because most people see the distance between where they are currently at and where they want to be and give up before they ever even try.
Every big dream can be broken down into smaller pieces. And conquering the smaller pieces individually will result in big results when done consistently.
In my book, I use losing weight as an example.
Most people that have a goals of losing weight will focus too much on the big picture and lose track of the smaller steps. For instance, if a person wants to lose 20 lbs., then instead of focusing on the full amount, focus on losing 2 lbs. per week. And if you fall short on losing 2 lbs. in one week, then just change your goal completion date to one week later to make up the difference.
However, what most people do is say “I want to lose 20 lbs. and I’m going to do it in 2 weeks.” They begin to ponder a start date, but focus so much on the enormity of the task of losing 20 lbs. that they fail to begin. The end result is that nearly everyone wants to weigh less than they currently do, but never accomplish their goals.
If people would realize that they don’t have to lose 20 lbs. all at once, and instead could break that number into smaller chunks, they would easily be able to reach their goal weight. They would never feel overwhelmed by what they were trying to accomplish.
Whatever it is that you are looking to achieve, break the larger goal into smaller pieces. Then, just take daily baby steps towards the completion of the the smaller pieces until the goal is completed in its entirety. The key is to make a consistent effort each and every day to complete the smaller goals.
That’s how the ultra-successful do it, and that’s how you should do it.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.

Personal Success: Goal Reset
Posted by: | CommentsIf you don’t already have your goals written down, then right now would be a great time to start.
If your goals are written down, then right now would be a great time to evaluate them.
Where are you in respect to reaching your goals?
Are on track? If so, then leave your goals alone and continue to strategize and work hard to achieve them.
Are you ahead of schedule? If you are going to easily reach the goals that you have set, then right now would be a great time to raise your expectations and set new goals. Don’t settle for being good when you could be great.
And finally, are you behind or off track? If so, then now would be a great time to adjust your goals to make them attainable. Now, if it would still be possible to reach your goals in the timeframe that you have written and would just be extremely difficult to do, then don’t change your goals.
However, if you have set the bar too high and will not be able to reach your goals under any circumstance, then don’t be afraid to lower it slightly to make them achievable. Or, you could always change your timeframe and push back the completion date for your goals.
Remember, the first and primary key is to actually write down what you want to achieve and by when you plan to achieve it.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.

Personal Success: Success is Always the Answer
Posted by: | CommentsWhatever it is that you may be facing, regardless of how insurmountable the odds may be stacked against you, success is always the answer.
The higher you climb on the ladder of success, the more challenges you will face. But regardless of what is standing in your way, you must always find a way to prevail.
In sports, in school, in business, even in your finances, the problems will continue to come at you. Brian Tracy describes problems as “waves in the ocean.” As soon as you make it through one obstacle, the next one is already on the way at you.
No matter how big the waves get, finding a way to win is always the solution.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.

Personal Success: Surround Yourself With Success
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s not easy to stay positive, especially in today’s doom and gloom media campaigns. The front page of every newspaper is filled with negativity about the economy, the war, divorce, the latest celebrity scandal and the list goes on and on.
The daily news is not much better. An occasional glimpse of something good for every 10 negative stories is what we’ve come to expect.
And it’s not the media’s fault. If negative ads and negative stories didn’t sell, they wouldn’t be doing them. Most people are enthralled by a good scandal. But then again, most people aren’t working to be their best.
I don’t want to be like most people. And I don’t want YOU to be like most people either!
If you want to be your best, you need to guard yourself against negativity. If the radio broadcast you’re listening to turns negative, turn it off. If the new on the television turns negative, change the channel. If the conversations you are involved in are negative, then change the topic.
And if you can’t seem to catch yourself in time, then just avoid these things all together.
If you are honestly working to be your best, then you may need to cancel your newspaper subscription, stop watching the news, avoid certain conversations or even avoid certain negative people. And once you have found ways to avoid negativity, begin to fill up your free time with positive things. Uplifting music, audio programs from successful people, motivating lectures and videos are staples in successful people’s daily routine.
And most importantly, only spend time with positive people. These are people with whom you leave their presence feeling better about life and about your future. You must choose your friends wisely because they will be the most crucial part of your journey to success.
When you deliberately surround yourself with positive things and positive people, you are on your way to becoming Unstoppable!
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.
Be Unstoppable!

Personal Success: “To Whom Much Has Been Given…”
Posted by: | CommentsOne of my favorite bible verses states that “To whom much has been given, much is required.”
You have already been given everything that you need to reach your potential. You have more than enough talent already.
Now is the time to put your talents and all that you have been given to work. Too many times people think that they need to wait for the perfect time, the perfect circumstances, the perfect ecoonomy, the perfect “whatever” before they will start on their journey towards achieving their dreams.
The perfect time is now! The perfect circumstances are these! The perfect ecomony is this one!
Stop procrastinating and starting doing. Our days are numbered. There will never be a better time to start doing what you need to do to reach your potential than right now. You have everything that you need to get started this very moment.
Start doing something today to bring you closer to your goals and perfect things as you go. But don’t just think about it, DO it… and do it today!
If we can agree that you have already been given enough energy, enough talent, enough vision, and enough of everything else you need to be successful, then we must also agree that it is time to start “requiring” more of ourselve.
Today is the day to start using your talents and gifts to help others. Even though you’ve already been given much, when you require more of yourself and hold yourself accountable to reaching your potential, you will be given even more. Start Today.
You were put here for a purpose, you are greater than you realize and your future will be filled with unlimited opportunities when you decide to become unstoppable.
Be Unstoppable!
