Personal Success: Baby Steps

Reach for the stars!
Everyone has heard this statement at some point in their lives, yet few ever dare to attempt it.
Why?
Because most people see the distance between where they are currently at and where they want to be and give up before they ever even try.
Every big dream can be broken down into smaller pieces. And conquering the smaller pieces individually will result in big results when done consistently.
In my book, I use losing weight as an example.
Most people that have a goals of losing weight will focus too much on the big picture and lose track of the smaller steps. For instance, if a person wants to lose 20 lbs., then instead of focusing on the full amount, focus on losing 2 lbs. per week. And if you fall short on losing 2 lbs. in one week, then just change your goal completion date to one week later to make up the difference.
However, what most people do is say “I want to lose 20 lbs. and I’m going to do it in 2 weeks.” They begin to ponder a start date, but focus so much on the enormity of the task of losing 20 lbs. that they fail to begin. The end result is that nearly everyone wants to weigh less than they currently do, but never accomplish their goals.
If people would realize that they don’t have to lose 20 lbs. all at once, and instead could break that number into smaller chunks, they would easily be able to reach their goal weight. They would never feel overwhelmed by what they were trying to accomplish.
Whatever it is that you are looking to achieve, break the larger goal into smaller pieces. Then, just take daily baby steps towards the completion of the the smaller pieces until the goal is completed in its entirety. The key is to make a consistent effort each and every day to complete the smaller goals.
That’s how the ultra-successful do it, and that’s how you should do it.

Business Success: Unemployment
Posted by: | CommentsEveryone is constantly being bombarded with news about the unemployement rate. The economic downfall is reported in every newspaper, every blog and every media outlet of every kind.
Whether you are an employer or employee, everyone is interested in job security. However, as both an employer and employee, job security is not given, but rather is earned.
And not only is job security earned, but it can only be earned by YOU. Your company, your employees, your employer, your customer/clients/patients, the government… none of them can earn YOUR job security. No one is responsible for your job security but you.
Your security is earned by:
1. Taking personal responsibility for your own actions.
2. Taking personal responsibility for your roll in the company.
3. Being the absolute best at what you do.
The greatest asset to any business or organization is the person that can never be replaced. This doesn’t mean the person who understands how to do their job, yet keeps it a secret from everyone else in an attempt to become irreplaceable. This means the person that is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
This means that the person is willing to go the extra mile without having to be asked, persuaded or forced to do so. This is the person that is willing to show up early and stay late when needed. This is the person that continually supports the business/organizational mission. This is the person that refuses to give up.
Becoming this person does not guarantee that you will always have a job with your current company, but it does guarantee that you will always have job security.
Why?
Because this kind of person is needed in every position in every business. If you can become the kind of person that can quickly become irreplaceable, then you will never be long without a job. This is the kind of person for which thriving businesses are continually looking.
If job security is a priority for you right now in this economy, then become irreplaceable by becoming an asset to your business. Business owners, employers and employees alike must take personal responsibility and be the absolute best at what you do if you hope to have security in your job.

Leadership Success: Help Others Win

If you have big plans for your own success, then you now know that you will not be able to achieve your goals by yourself. You will undoubtedly need to enlist the help of others to get where you want to go.
And if you are going to need the help of others to get there, then your leadership skills need to improve. Everyone views leadership differently, but before you even define what type of a leader you want to be, you need to learn the basic premise behind leading others. If your real purpose for leading others is on-point, then any style of leadership will likely work.
Leadership Success = Helping others win!
That’s right, it’s not about you when you’re leading others. When you learn to help others get what they want, they will always find ways to help you get what you want as well. The key is that you must give first. Give your time, your money, your talents. And if you feel as though you have nothing to give, then give them hope. Give to help others achieve their goals. It is often taught that leadership is a win-lose proposition. If you want to win, then you need to step on others to get there. Not True! If you must hurt others to get where you want to go, then it’s not a destination worth going.
Whether you want success in business, finances, academics, sports or in your personal life, you will need the help of others to get there. Start finding ways to help those people that you will need get whatever they want in their own lives. If you wait to give to them until you have gotten what you want, you will be waiting forever. You must give first, before you receive. Give your way to success today.

Financial Success: Create Your Own Future

There’s always a way to win.
Open the newspaper or check the homepage of any news site and you will see nothing but economic and financial doom and gloom. Listen to people through your day and see how many of them speak of financial doom and gloom as well.
Negative news sells. It is a proven fact. That’s why we see so much negativity. And since many of the people that you and I see on a daily basis are not living a life of success, they are persuaded by the media and regurgitate to everyone else throughout their day. Keep in mind that most people speaking of a bad economy have no idea what they’re talking about. They just know that the media says it’s bad.
Successful people look for solutions, not problems. While some people complain about the gas prices, successful people buy stock in the oil companies. While some people complain about the real estate market, successful people are buying great real estate at a lower cost. While some people complain about the loss or potential loss of their jobs, successful people are using this time to prepare for a better job or to create their own businesses.
There’s always a way to win. There’s always a solution. If you want to become financially indepedent, you must stop complaining and stop listening to others complain and find the solution. I promise you that there will be one.

Personal Success: Passion

My Passionate Little Guy
Have you ever seen a kid with their parents in the grocery store? If you have, then you undoubtedly have seen them throwing fits, usually in the cereal isle.
Here’s what happens: The child sees their favorite cereal box and the toys that are supposed to be inside. They then tell their parents that they must have the cereal in order to survive. Their parents then inevitably say “no” the first time the child asks for the cereal.
The child then raises their request to more of a demand. The parent, holding their ground, says “no” again. The child consequently screams at the top of their lungs and throws their bodies on the ground or cart acting as if their parents are horrible people if they don’t buy them the cereal they want.
Trying to calm them down, the parent attempts to reason with the child and explain why they shouldn’t have the cereal. However, the child is inconsolable. Finally, the parent picks up the box of cereal and places it in the cart.
The child wins!
Whatever it is that you want to accomplish, you must approach it with the same level of passion that children have in the cereal isle. As adults, we often run into a single stumbling block and immediately give up. Greatness as never been, and never will be, achieved without passion.
I’m not saying that you have to throw a fit every time something doesn’t go your way, but I am saying that you can’t give up as easily as the parent in the grocery store. Right this very minute, there are people with limited talent and skills that are living the life of their dreams because they have more passion than other people.
Ideally, a successful person would have talent, skill and passion. But in a battle between talent, skill and passion, passion will always prevail.
Decide today to go after your dreams with passion… as if your life depended on you accomplishing your goals. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the problems get resolved and how quickly others will get out of your way and stop holding your back.

Business Success: Elevate Your Standards

My little princess already sets some high standards
If you want to become unstoppable, you need to elevate your standards.
What I mean is that you need to do your best at all times regardless of what everyone else is doing. If you decide to take it easy most of the time because your friends, your family or you coworkers do, you will never reach your potential.
Look at what your friends, family and coworkers have. Look at what they do. If they don’t have what you want, then don’t do what they do. If you don’t want to become the kind of person that they are, then don’t allow yourself to slip into their routine.
Much of the world is broke, unmotivated and wasting their time on Earth. Don’t be like them.
Instead, choose to elevate your expectations and hold yourself to a higher standard. Choose to do what successful people do. If you have a friend, family member, boss or coworker that is ultra-successful, you will undoubtedly find that they don’t do what everyone else does. They know what they want, they know what they have to do to get it and they do what’s necessary to pay the price for achieving their dreams each and every day.
Elevate your standards today and you will be on your way to getting more out of life by giving all you have to it.
